Pequim

Na primeira espreitadela na China, Pequim foi eleita a cidade para a visita. Durante 5 dias à moda Japonesa, ou seja, 3 dias efectivos pois o primeiro e o último perdem-se para as viagens, visitámos Pequim e a Grande Muralha e apesar de curta, foi uma experiência bem diferente, mesmo para quem vive num pais já por si diferente do normal.
A cidade de Pequim é enorme, tem um toque futurista, especialmente desde os jogos olímpicos de 2008 que literalmente transformaram a cidade, e ao mesmo tempo não deixa esquecer o passado e as tradições. Não deixa de ser uma cidade com um aglomerado populacional gigante, e consequentemente altamente poluída. A neblina de poluição atmosférica é uma constante e o astro rei uma miragem.

For our first visit to China, Beijing was chosen. For 5 "Japanese style" day tour (meaning, actually 3 days cause first and last are lost for the transportation) we enjoyed the Chinese capital and the Great Wall, and although it was a short period, the experience was incredible and quite...lets say....exotic...
Beijing is enormous, includes a futuristic touch, mainly offered by the Olympics renovations in 2008, and still, doesn't let us forget about tradition, past and culture. Of course, with the population levels in the city it is also expected the pollution levels, and the pollution smog is a permanent view while at the same time the Sun is a mirage.

Na praça de Tiananmen, como em quase todos os sítios turísticos, a segurança é permanente e bem visível, o que torna a vida dos turistas bem mas descansada...ou não...

At Tiananmen Square, just like in most of the touristic places security is permanent and very visible. That made our life as tourists much more relaxed...or maybe not...:)

A Grande Muralha foi para mim uma das grandes surpresas. Apesar de já saber que era imponente e misteriosa, ao vivo e a cores foi para mim algo que mereceu sem qualquer dúvida as agasturas do dia a dia em Pequim. É incrível, e merece uma visita por quem passe por aquelas bandas.

The Great Wall was without question one of the mains surprises for me in this trip. Of course I knew already that it was imposing and mysterious, but it was amazing the feeling when I got there. It s really beautiful and majestic, and it made all the small Beijing daily life drawbacks absolutely worth it.

E claro que não se está na China se não estivermos por perto de coisas nojentas para comer. Aqui no mercado da noite encontram-se essas pequenas coisas que dão asco, mas que os turistas ainda assim compram e provam para pousar para a fotografia. Desde escorpiões ainda vivos, casulos de bicho da seda, pénis de carneiro, baratas, estrelas do mar, lagartos e muito mais coisas que a imaginação de gente que se delicia com bitoques e peixe grelhado jamais alcançará.

And of course one is not in China if there isn't something disgusting to eat. Although everybody say "ughh" and "blahh" when they see the night market street, almost everybody ends up trying one of the bugs or freak show animals just to take the photo...and after all is one in a life time chance right? That includes scorpions, lizards, sea stars, lamb penis, cockroaches and so many other things that the innocent imagination of somebody that adores simple grilled beef and fish will never reach.

No terceiro dia fomos contemplados com a tempestade de areia do ano e o mundo ficou castanho para nós. Não só o mundo mas tudo o que se movia nele, incluindo o desgraçado do Panda que não lhe chegava estar demente (sim....é verdade...os animais do jardim zoológico de Pequim não estão propriamente no paraíso...pelo menos não pareciam...) estava também encardido.

Lucky as we are we had the chance to witness the once a year sand storm. So, everything got brown including the poor Panda, that, as if it was not enough to be suffering from some kind of dementia, it was also browny. I was actually expecting a much better Beijing Zoo, since its huge and famous, but unfortunately, lately it has been famous together with many other zoos in China more due to animal mistreatment than due to animal conservation policy.

E assim foi Pequim. A viagem curta mas boa. Cidade grande mas interessante. Com grande desenvolvimento mas nem tanto. Com muita gente com muitos hábitos....digamos...diferentes...Enfim gostei. Próxima paragem: Shangai!

And that was Beijing! The trip was short but good. The city huge but interesting. Developed but not so much. Highly populated and with habits...lets say...somehow different. Conclusion: I Like it! Next stop: Shanghai!
